Usagi Tsukino é uma garota chorona, fraca nos estudos e bem preguiçosa. Mesmo assim, seu jeito alegre e cheio de energia é único, assim como sua paixão por comer e dormir. Um dia, o destino dessa garota comum se transforma ao encontrar Luna, uma gata preta com sinal de lua crescente na testa. A gata mensageira da Lua diz que Usagi foi escolhida como uma Guerreira Sailor e que tem a missão de lutar contra seres malignos, procurar as outras guerreiras aliadas e encontrar a Princesa da Lua. Ao perceber os movimentos de Luna, Queen Beryl, a rainha do Reino da Escuridão, ordena que seus subordinados impeçam as Guerreiras.
