Un muchacho de instituto que parece muy normal y que hizo una promesa de pequeño con el que él pensaba que era el amor de su vida: ella se llevaba la llave y él la cerradura. Un día se encuentra con Chitoge Kirisaki, una chica con la que su primer contacto es que le dé un rodillazo en la cara. Raku es en realidad el heredero de un gran clan de yakuzas, y acabará teniendo que relacionarse con la recién conocida Chitoge sin poder evitarlo, puesto que es la hija del jefe de un clan rival. Ambos fingirán tener una relación por el bien de sus familias y todo el mundo se lo cree.
